WebMay 28, 2011 · The problem was the end clearance on my intake is only .045. The cometic head gaskets were making a small dent not more that .010 deep in all four corners of the intake. I filed a notch to clear the obstruction and it is now running like it should. Smooth idle and sounds better too. I've been doing this stuff for 50 years and this is a first. O WebJul 11, 2009 · Using the gaskets at the front and rear can cause the manifold to not seal tightly on the intake ports. The last time I used those gaskets, the engine burned LOTS of oil.
